Kirkland skier brings home three medals from World Special Olympics

Kirkland resident Katie Meyer, 27, recently won two Gold medals and a Bronze medal at the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games, which took place Feb. 7-13 in Boise, Idaho. More than 3,000 athletes from 85 countries competed in seven different Olympic-type sports.
One of 14 Special Olympics Washington athletes, Katie Meyer of Kirkland represented Washington state and the United States in the Alpine Skiing category. She won Gold medals in both the Alpine Advanced Giant Slalom and Alpine Advanced Super G. The athlete also won a Bronze medal in the Alpine Advanced Slalom.
"We are so proud of Katie and all of our Washington state athletes who competed in the 2009 World Winter Games," said John Borgognoni, vice president of sports and programs for Special Olympics Washington. "The 14 athletes from Washington state exhibited an immense amount of hard work and dedication throughout the Games and most importantly they had fun."
