Editor's note: Lydia Taggart was found “safe and sound” at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18 in Kirkland. Police found her at a Kirkland home and she was soon reunited with her family at the Kirkland Police Department. Her family said they are overwhelmed and extremely thankful to the friends and extended community who reached out with words of encouragement and support during their crisis.

A Kirkland family is looking for their teenage girl, who has been missing for more than 24 hours.

Lydia Taggart, 14, was last seen on a morning school bus headed to Juanita High School at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17.

Her father Nelson Taggart said she arrived at school but never went to class. Her parents got a text message from her at 11 a.m. that day, which said she was mad at them and was going to be gone for a couple of days.

“We’re worried sick. She has never done this before,” Taggart said.

After unsuccessfully tracking her cell phone, contacting her friends and trying to get information from her boyfriend, the Taggarts notified Kirkland police.

Her father said Lydia has connected with another teen runaway and there are some Facebook rumors the two went to Leavenworth.

Taggart said he believes his daughter is mad at him and his wife because they were enforcing rules.

He said he’s not aware of any drug use but was told by officers that it’s typical for runaway teens to leave on three-day weekends because there’s a party they want to go to and they eventually return home Sunday.

Lydia is 5 feet, 9 inches tall, about 130 pounds with blue eyes and long brown hair with a white streak.

She was wearing white sweat bottoms, white tennis shoes, a black pullover sweatshirt, a black backpack and might also be carrying her soccer gear.

If you have information on Lydia or her whereabouts, contact Karyn Taggart at (425) 445-4837, Nelson Taggart at (425) 463-9359 or 911.
