Subject shot by Kirkland police officer released from hospital, will face judge

The man who was shot by a Kirkland police officer late Monday night was released from the hospital Wednesday.

Joseph K. Rundlette, 25, was released from Harborview Medical Center following surgery for a gunshot wound. The man will face a judge for the first time later today or tomorrow after being charged with robbery and first-degree assault.

Rundlette allegedly robbed a woman and then drove an SUV at a Kirkland police officer as he attempted to leave the parking lot of the Totem Lake Motel 6. The case will be filed with the King County Prosecutor’s Office later this afternoon.

The King County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Task Force conducted the investigation into the incident, along with Kirkland detectives.

The Kirkland officer who shot Rundlette remains on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues, which is routine for officer involved shootings.

The incident is the first officer-invloved shooting since the 1970s according to a Department spokesman.
