Kirkland’s Railroad Avenue to close for a month due to sewer work

A section of Railroad Avenue in Kirkland will close to all traffic for four weeks on Monday, July 9 to enable King County utility crews to complete work on a sewer improvement project.
During construction, southbound motorists and pedestrians will be unable to access Eighth Street South from Kirkland Way. A detour will instead route traffic to Kirkland Avenue, Sixth Street South, and Ninth Avenue South. Access to Everest Park and local businesses will be maintained for the duration of the project.
The work is part of a King County project to upgrade the Kirkland Pump Station at the intersection of Park Lane and Third Street, which has been serving the Kirkland community for 40 years.
The road closure will enable crews to connect new pipelines from the pump station to the Eastside Interceptor, which conveys wastewater to King County’s South Treatment Plant in Renton.
