The winter storm that has entered the Puget Sound area has cancelled many events and meetings in Kirkland. The snow has also closed many popular roads and sidewalks.

All garbage and recycling collection services have been cancelled for Wednesday. Customers should check Waste Management’s “Weatherboard” for collection service notices and updates or call 800-592-9995.

City Road Maintenance crews are concentrating their efforts to plow the “first priority” roadways as defined in the Priority Snow Removal Route map.

Here are some of the main roads that have been closed due to the weather: N.E. 52nd Street between Lake Washington Blvd. and 108th Ave.; N.E. 97th Street between 112th Ave. N.E. and 110th Ave. N.E.; 5th Ave. between Lake Street South and State Street South; 5th Place between 15th Ave. and 18th Ave.; N.E. 104th Street between 113th Court N.E. and 111th Ave. N.E.; and the side streets off of Market Street from 10th Ave. North to 19th Ave.

City of Kirkland officials are reminding residents that property owners adjacent to sidewalks are responsible for keeping them clear of snow and debris. Road hazards within Kirkland can be reported to the 24-hour Public Works Maintenance Line at 425-587-3900.

Most city and neighborhood association meetings are cancelled for Wednesday including the Finn Hill fire station community workshop, the Library Board meeting, the Evergreen Hill neighborhood association meeting, Highlands neighborhood association meeting and Market neighborhood meeting are all cancelled.

Kirkland City Hall is open with limited staff. Peter Kirk Community Center is open until 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The North Kirkland Community Center, Kirkland Municipal Court and Kirkland Cemetery are all closed Wednesday. All city recreation programs are cancelled for Wednesday. For more information call 425-587-3335.
