Family, neighbors and city leaders dispersed onto the streets of downtown Kirkland with rakes and brooms and gave the city a spring cleaning on Saturday, May 2.
During the Downtown Kirkland Clean Sweep event, dozens of volunteers, including City Manager Dave Ramsay, spruced up the streets, pulled weeds and got the downtown area ready for a busy summer season.
Along Park Lane, Phoebe Mangouras, 7 years old, and younger sister, Kristina, 4, swept up twigs and leaves into their mini dust pans.
"Before we got here, they weren't very excited about cleaning," said their Grandma, Kris Bennett. But once they started cleaning, they couldn't be stopped, she said.
Afterwards, volunteers enjoyed a barbecue at The Grape Choice wine shop, compliments of the Kirkland Downtown Association.
