In honor and memory of Dick Shinstrom, who passed in August 2016, Paul Richardson established the Dick Shinstrom Scholarship Fund on Sept. 14, 2016 within the Kirkland Kiwanis Foundation.

Richardson’s annual pledge and contribution are 0.5 cents/mile he walks/jogs; Mark Shinstrom has joined him as a sponsor. Total contribution for 2017 and 2018 has been $928.72.

Richardson invites new pledge sponsors for the 2018 track year. Richardson will walk or jog according to however much is donated by the public.

The fund for 2018 which will be due in January 2019. A single annual contribution is payable by check to The Kirkland Kiwanis Foundation, with the memo line “Dick Shinstrom Scholarship fund,” and forwarded to Ross Dessert, KKF Treasurer.

Once the fund is sufficiently seeded, there will be distribution to the qualified recipients. The minimum seeding is $10.000 by January 2019 and the possible first distribution by 2020.

The nomination will be done by members of the Kiwanis Club of Kirkland, the Board of Directors of the KCK/KKF, teachers and school administrators, members of the business community, and members of the public with the knowledge about the fund, its interest and goal.
