Gov. Jay Inslee has appointed Robert Malte to the board of trustees of Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech).

Malte’s term began in October.

Malte is the CEO emeritus of EvergreenHealth in Kirkland, serving as its CEO for more than eight years. During his tenure at EvergreenHealth, he was responsible for the leadership of all aspects of EvergreenHealth’s purpose, mission and vision.

According to an LWTech press release, Malte retired as CEO in August to pursue a long-held aspiration to teach health care management at the graduate level. He recently joined the faculty of University of Washington’s masters of health administration program as a clinical associate professor and practitioner in residence.

In addition to serving as a trustee for LWTech, Malte has served on several area boards, including the Washington State Hospital Association board — on which he recently completed his term as chair — the First Choice Health board and the Greater Kirkland Chamber of Commerce board. According to the release, he also served on the Seattle Executive Steering Committee for the American Heart and Stroke Association Heart Walk, including being co-chair for the 2016 Heart Walk.

Malte earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Ripon College and his MBA from The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. In 2016, he was awarded an honorary bachelors of applied science degree in public health from LWTech.

“Bob has been a great advocate of the students, faculty and staff of LWTech for many years, by serving on the president’s advisory council, as well as being LWTech’s 2016 commencement speaker,” LWTech board chair Darrell Mitsunaga said in the release. “He has a strong understanding of the college and the needs of our community and area businesses. The trustees and I look forward to working with him, in this new capacity.”

Malte replaces longtime trustee Bruce Reid, who cycled off the board last month. Reid spent more than a decade as a trustee for the LWTech.
