Local nursing student wins a car in local business’s anniversary raffle

A local student won a new car in a 20th anniversary celebration for Aegis Living.

Aegis Living, a national leader in assisted living and memory care, is celebrating its 20-year anniversary this summer. The company gave away a new car through a live Facebook drawing as a part of this celebration.

Haley Lawrence, 23, who lives, works and goes to school in Kirkland, won the car and said it was life-changing.

“I got a call and they were yelling and screaming that “you won!”” Lawrence said in a press release. “I told them not to tell me that if it wasn’t real. I finally started to believe them but it’s still a little unreal. I couldn’t have won, there were so many people in the drawing.”

Lawrence started working at Aegis two years ago as certified nursing assistant (CNA).

“My first CNA job from the restaurant business because I decided I wanted to be a nurse,” she said in a press release. “I’m in nursing school. Aegis is really good about working with my schedule and classes and I have one year left and will graduating June next year with my [registered nurse license].”

The prize car is a 2017 Subaru Outback. Lawrence said she was hit by a drunk driver when she was 17 in her first car, which was also a Subaru, and has permanent lower back damage as a result.

Lawrence and her family said they believe brand’s acclaimed safety prevented her from further injury in the accident.

“My dad and whole family have been huge advocates of Subaru because of that,” she said in a press release. “I have a 20-year-old car and I was joking that I got a 20-year upgrade on the company’s 20-year anniversary … Just having something like that is going to be so reassuring and safe. It’s a huge upgrade.”
