EvergreenHealth named one of America’s 100 best hospitals

On Feb. 27, Healthgrades added EvergreenHealth to its 2018 America’s 100 Best Hospitals list, recognizing the Kirkland-based health system for the second consecutive year.

The distinction places EvergreenHealth among a small group of hospitals nationwide, which represent the top 2 percent of more than 4,500 U.S. hospitals.

Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, selected recipients of the 2018 America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award based on performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across many of the most common inpatient conditions and procedures during the 2018 study period (2014-‘16).

“A national distinction like this 100 Best award is a reflection of our system-wide commitment to absolutely safety, quality care and an exceptional patient experience, delivered each day by every EvergreenHealth provider, staff member and volunteer,” EvergreenHealth CEO Bob Malte said in a press release. “Our collective commitment to continually fulfilling our mission to advance the health of our community with high-quality and cost-effective care helps us achieve the best clinical outcomes for our patients.”

EvergreenHealth is one of six hospitals in Washington to receive the 100 Best distinction this year. From 2014 through 2016, patients treated in hospitals achieving Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award had, on average, a 22.3 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome.

During this same period, if all other hospitals, as a group, performed at the level of America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award recipients, an average of 162,284 lives could potentially have been saved. For example, patients treated at a hospital that has achieved the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award had, on average, a 9.1 percent lower risk of dying during their hospital stays for heart failure than if treated at a hospital that did not receive the award.
