Sage’s background and preparation make her right for LWSD board | Letter

It has been a privilege to serve on the Lake Washington School District board for the past 20 years. I announced my decision not to seek a sixth term months in advance, with the hope that candidates to replace me would thoughtfully prepare for board service and take time to understand school board governance. One candidate did so.

Since deciding to run for the board, Cassandra Sage has attended every board study session and meeting and the state school director’s training for candidates. She has worked to learn what board service requires and met with current and former board members, district administrators, teachers, parents and students. She asks incisive questions, listens closely and has productive ideas to improve support and achievement for all students. She understands where Lake Washington excels and where it needs to improve.

Cassandra has more than 20 years as a parent and active volunteer in the district. Four Golden Acorn awards from the PTSA, her work with Seattle Children’s Hospital, Cub Scouts and special needs children are an indication of a person who gives her heart to volunteer work and servant leadership. Cassandra’s professional background in early childhood education is an additional strength, as she understands its importance in student success. Her all-encompassing experience, in addition to the effort she has put into preparing to serve on this board makes her an asset that LWSD needs.

Please vote for Cassandra Sage to replace me on the Lake Washington school board.

Nancy Bernard,
