I’ve been involved in education advocacy in public schools for the past 12 years. As the parent of a child with autism, I’ve worked closely with families and schools to help students with disabilities. As an advocate for children in our foster care system, I help some of our most at-risk students get the supports they need
We are blessed to be a rich nation with more material goods than most of the rest of the world. We also create more trash, garbage and waste than much of the world’s people put together.
This mid-term election is important and voters in the 48th have an important decision to make.
In the race for 45th District Senator, the best decision for voters is to re-elect Andy Hill.
I am amazed to read that the Kirkland City Council is spending time and city resources on consideration of an ordinance to outlaw plastic shopping bags.
Whenever I see this well-funded campaign urging votes for yes on I-594, assuring us that it “believes in the Second Amendment,” really it does, “but all it seeks is …” I can’t help but be reminded of how the walrus and the carpenter concealed their true intentions from the oysters they were addressing in Lewis Carroll’s poem “O Oysters, come and walk with us!” The Walrus did beseech, “A pleasant walk, a pleasant talk, along the briny beach: …”
Now that election time is drawing near I find I have to voice my right of free speech for or against some candidates.
My husband, Ralph, and I attended the Oktoberfest in Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Kirkland marina.
I can’t believe when, I hear the news on the radio or watch the news on TV, there is at least one story about a killing by firearms.
I’m a single mom raising two boys; it’s hard. Elected officials keep making it harder by taking more from me without any thought to the impact it will have on my family. Now, they tell me they want to increase the B&O tax, property tax, add sales tax on products the public rejected and they want an income tax.
The city of Kirkland paid tax dollars for a survey regarding a plastic bag ban … and then flat out ignored the results.
I’m not one to typically make Op/Ed contributions, but in the case of this year’s election, I can’t sit silently by and watch Sen. Andy Hill be attacked with false accusations.
I’ll preface my comments by saying I am a political independent.
Let’s begin with the assertion that our Second Amendment rights will not be violated.
The Instructions read: “Take a bag. No poop please. Use trash container.”
As a candidate challenging for a seat in the State House of Representatives, I would like to take just a few moments of your time before ballots arrive and remind you how important this election cycle is to our community.
I am writing regarding the potential City Council action regarding plastic bags.
In reference to the story on the front page of the King Reporter on Oct. 10, a train over or under north Lake Washington is a smashing idea. And so is a third car bridge – from Sand Point or Magnuson Park to Juanita.
Imagine my surprise when I read the front page article, “City Council moves forward with discussion on plastic bag ban.”
A recent poll showed that 42 percent of Americans do not identify with either major party. It is to these independents – the people looking for more than just a ‘D’ or an ‘R’ next to a candidate’s name on a ballot – that I write.
