Increasing skepticism of Reporter cartoons | Letter

I have been looking at the political cartoon in the Kirkland Reporter with increasing skepticism over the passing weeks, but the one in regard to the 405 HOV lanes on April 1 really is too much.

I have been looking at the political cartoon in the Kirkland Reporter with increasing skepticism over the passing weeks, but the one in regard to the 405 HOV lanes on April 1 really is too much.

Perhaps I am missing the fact that the cartoon is trying to sure the absurdity of those that argue for the abolishment of the HOV lanes on 405. The HOV lanes currently are not so devoid of traffic as to free up the traffic problems if they were available to all. Yet, the artist tries to make that very argument.

Most absurd of all is that the artist goes from 37 cars sharing the road to 13. Yes, this is a depiction of the belief of how free traffic supposedly will be, but it also does a great job of showing how ridiculous the argument is.

Using the artists own rendition, there are 13 open spots in the HOV lanes to disperse the 30 cars in the non-HOV lanes. Do the math – we have too many cars on the road, and just opening up a few more spaces is not going to alleviate our traffic problems.
