Cassandra Sage has been doing her homework | Letter

Being a School Board Member is an important job. It is a non-partisan, non-paid position. School Boards are responsible for overseeing how a school district educates all their students. Over my 20 years as a Lake Washington School District (LWSD) Board member, I always hoped that candidates, once they filed for election, would take the time to learn more about what exactly this responsibility entails. Over my 20 years, some have done this and others have not.

Cassandra Sage has been doing her homework. She has met with former and current Board members to better understand the role of a School Board member. She has attended trainings. She has attended study sessions and Board meetings. She attends school events. She asks questions. And she comes into this with over 20 years of experience in the LWSD – as a parent; as a PTSA leader and as an active volunteer. She understands the importance of providing educational opportunities for all students throughout the school district.

Cassandra through her years of experience understands what the LWSD does well and areas that could use improvement. For instance, she would like to see more technical/vocational classes for students as well as increased STEM opportunities in all schools as well as increasing the home/school partnership. I believe she will do the job and do it well.

I hope you will join me in voting for Cassandra Sage as the next School Board Member for Director District 3.
