Artist completes staircase installation at KAC
January 13, 2009 · Updated 12:29 AM
Artist Julie Alpert recently completed a site-specific installation in the back staircase at Kirkland Arts Center (KAC).
The KAC celebrated her opening reception Jan. 9, which coincided with the gallery’s reception for its new exhibit “Site: Unseen,” which runs through Feb. 6 and features a contemporary landscape photography show.
Alpert’s piece is a humorous response to the intersection of artificial and naturally occurring materials and colors. She employs a high-contrast, graphic style with a painter’s sensibility to respond and react to the existing architecture and materials. Alpert’s playful misuse of found, common household objects adds to the sense of orchestrated chaos and shifting scale.
KAC is located at 620 Market Street. For more information, call 425-822-7161, or visit www.kirklandartscenter.com.
