Schedule of local July 4 festivities

10 a.m.: The Kirkland Arts Center and Celebrate Kirkland! are hosting the city’s annual “Decorate to Celebrate” event at the Marina Park pavilion; tattoos, flags, pinwheels, streamers and spaceships. According to the Celebrate Kirkland Web site: “tons of fun for everyone!”

11:30 a.m.: Children’s walking parade begins at Market and Central at the park entrance. Of note: Staging for the kid’s parade is in Marina Park. The parade begins at Market & Central, proceeds East on Central to 3rd Street and turns south on 3rd Street to Kirkland Avenue just in time to join the crowd for the “grand” parade.

Noon: The grand downtown parade begins.

1 to 5 p.m.: The Kirkland Rotary hosts an olde fashioned community picnic at Juanita Beach; includes an egg toss, three-legged race, pie-eating contest, face painting, a dunk tank and lots of music, games, food, booths and fun for people of all ages.

4 p.m.: The 11th annual Kirkland Rotary Duck Dash. Prizes include: a brand new 2009 Chevrolet Aveo, a weekend at a hotel, a television set, a bicycle and 22 other possibilities.
