The X Gym repeated their domination this year in the 21st annual stair race up the 56 floor WaMu Tower on Dec. 3. Last year, the X Gym won 12 of the 14 medals given, and this year would have been a sweep, had they enrolled two relay teams instead of just one.

“We won fastest relay team, but not second because we only had one team signed up” said PJ Glassey, owner of the Alki and Kirkland X Gyms. “It was nice for someone else to win something. I was starting to feel like a jerk for winning all the medals.”

The race benefited the fight against Cystic Fibrosis, and raised over $160,000 before the night was over. X Gym contributed over $4,000 to the cause, making them one of the top fundraisers as well.

The X Gym also earned eight out of the top 10 fastest times overall, including a new course record of 5:46 for the 21 year old race. They had two teams signed up this year, and both teams averaged under seven minutes, earning them the top two fastest team times overall, breaking their own record twice, which they had set last year.

The X Gym specializes in high intensity training, using seven unique protocols invented by them, producing twice the results of traditional personal training in only 20 minutes, twice a week.

“The proof is in the pudding” says Glassey. “Other gyms claim to be as good or better, but when it comes to measured performance demonstrated through competitions like these, no one can touch us.”

The X Gym has also dominated the Columbia Tower Climb the past 2 years, and intends on repeating that for a third time in March 2010.

The X Gym will be starting a stair training boot camp class for members and others interested in training for the upcoming Columbia climb, and for people who want to get into the rapidly growing sport of stair climbing. He also offers free content and advice through his blog and the affiliated stair climbing website at Fight Club. More information can be found at X Gym.
