The Kirkland Fire Department will host its annual Fire Camp July 20-24. The camp is for kids in junior high school ages 12-15.

The camp teaches kids fire behavior, hose handling, rope knots and rappelling, use of firefighter gear and equipment, vehicle extraction and team building. The camp is conducted by Kirkland firefighters. Kids will also have the opportunity to earn first aid, CPR and water safety cards. Fire Camp will be held at different locations in Kirkland and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. all five days. The sites are chosen based on the different camp activities and include local Fire Stations and parks. Family orientation and bunker gear fitting will be held July 15, 6–8 p.m. A BBQ and camper skills demonstration will be held for the whole family on July 24, 1–4:30 p.m. Students may live outside the Kirkland fire response area and will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis.

The cost is $350 per students with some partial scholarships available.

Applications are available at www.ci.kirkland.wa.us; at Kirkland City Hall, 123 Fifth Ave., Kirkland, 98033; or by calling 425-587-3650.
