Fire Captain recognized for 30 years of service

Kirkland Fire Department Capt. Larry Peabody was recognized for 30 years of service during a council meeting Dec. 16.

Peabody began his career with the City of Kirkland in 1978 and has been assigned to all of the city’s fire stations over the years, as well as to the Rose Hill Station No. 6 since 1992.

Since 1980, Peabody has worked as part of the department’s Apparatus Planning and Design Team and is currently working on the next fire engine and medical aid unit projects.

Peabody also enjoys art design and has designed the current logo for Kirkland Fire, as well as the past logo, along with logos for the Washington State Fire Mechanics and Zone One Technical Rescue. He has participated as a board member of the Northwest Burn Foundation, The Eastside Municipal Credit Supervisory Committee, Boys and Girls Club fundraisers, Kirkland Little League and the Kirkland Christmas Basket Program.

Peabody is a certified Technical Rescue Technician and instructor, and has been the city’s Rescue Team leader since 1996. In addition, he is currently chairman of King County Fire Zone One Technical Rescue Committee, which encompasses all 12 of the Eastside’s Fire Departments.

Peabody and wife of 28 years, Shaunie, have two children, Justin, 25 and Courtney, 22. He resides in Kirkland and away from work enjoys touring the country on his Harley. and being on the water.
