Recruiting is underway in the Juanita Service Unit, which promotes scouting at Frost, Muir, Juanita, Keller, Thoreau and Sandburg Elementary schools.

The PTSA-sponsored ice cream socials and barbecues are great ways to network with parents about scouting. After these events recruitment nights are held at the schools to learn more about scouting.

Girl Scout recruiter Lile Ellefsen is excited about starting new troops. “Last year eight new troops started up in this area. Girls just love to have a place to make new friends, share experiences, and just hang out together”.

Karen Larsen, Service Unit Manager, points out, “We especially need volunteers to lead troops. More girls can be in troops with more adult volunteers as leaders. All leaders work with co-leaders so you are never alone. Plus, training is provided by the Council.”

Girl Scouts offer programs for Daisies (K-1st grade), Brownies (2-3rd grade), Juniors (4-5th Grade), Cadettes (6-8th grade), Seniors (9-10th grade) and Ambassadors (11-12th grade).

At 7 p.m., Sept. 24 Keller Elementary will hold its recruitment in Portable 8, Thoreau’s will be Sept. 25, and Juanita Elementary on Oct. 4. On October 9 from 6:45-8 p.m. a New Troop Night will be held at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Kirkland.

Girls are welcome as there will be a variety of activities.

Those interested in scouting on the Eastside can call Girl Scouts of Western Washington Eastside Service Center at (425) 614-1126.
