Shake Shack to open in Kirkland

The East Coast burger chain will open in Kirkland Urban, the nearly completed mixed-use development.

Months after Shake Shack debuted in Seattle’s South Lake Union, the popular burger chain has announced it’s coming to the Eastside.

Kirkland Urban has signed with Shake Shack and will host the restaurant starting late summer or early fall, alongside a dozen other tenants including Cafe Ladro, Dough Zone and Evergreens Salad. Shake Shack also has a third location planned for the University Village in Seattle.

“We are very excited to have Shake Shack join the plethora of wonderful dining options we have here in Kirkland,” said Kirkland mayor Penny Sweet. “Shake Shack will be a great addition to the innovative Kirkland Urban project and it will add another exciting option for downtown diners.”

Shake Shack boasted lines stretching around the block when it opened last fall near Amazon’s Seattle campus. The New York-based chain currently has more than 200 locations worldwide with only one in the Pacific Northwest and the next nearest location in Las Vegas.

The Kirkland Urban development sits at the intersection of 6th Street and Central Way. The mixed-use space includes retail, office and residential options in downtown Kirkland. Currently, Wave Broadband, Tableau Software, QFC, Heavy Restaurant Group, Bright Horizons daycare and Homestreet Bank have signed leases.

Co-developers Talon Private Capital and Ryan Companies US Inc. will include 185 apartment homes at Kirkland Urban that include one-bedroom, two-bedroom and townhouse floor-plans.
