EvergreenHealth adds Dr. Peter Nora to Spine and Neurosurgical Care

EvergreenHealth has announced the addition of neurosurgeon Dr. Peter Nora to EvergreenHealth Spine and Neurosurgical Care. Nora is one of the region’s leading specialists in treating comprehensive spine disease and his practice focuses on deep brain stimulation surgery for movement disorders.

Nora brings extensive clinical expertise and leadership experience to his new position with EvergreenHealth. He is credited with developing well-respected movement disorder and surgical programs within the organizations he’s served, often leading those programs as their medical director.

“We are honored to have Dr. Nora join EvergreenHealth’s spine and neurosurgery practice where our providers are passionate about creating innovative solutions for our patients’ most complex challenges. Dr. Nora’s expertise in deep brain stimulation brings an exciting complement to the practice’s ongoing work in this field and his patient-centered approach is an ideal fit with EvergreenHealth’s purpose to enrich our patients’ lives,” EvergreenHealth CEO Bob Malte said.

As a leader in his practice area, Nora’s experience includes roles as principal investigator in several clinical studies focused primarily on utilizing deep brain stimulation to treat neurological disorders. He is nationally known as a published author in medical journals and industry publications, including the Journal of Neurosurgery and the Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery, and he has presented at numerous neurological conferences across the country. Locally, Nora was recently featured in a two-part series on deep brain stimulation on Seattle’s NPR radio station, KUOW.

When caring for patients, Nora’s philosophy focuses on listening and understanding the unique concerns and symptoms of each individual. He partners with patients to explore nonsurgical treatments that can often help alleviate pain before pursuing surgical options to improve the patients’ quality of life. One of his primary goals is to have patients and their family members leave EvergreenHealth feeling comfortable and educated about every phase of their care.

Nora earned his medical degree at the Tulane University School of Medicine and he completed his residency at George Washington University, eventually becoming chief neurosurgery resident. He is board certified with the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS), and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, among other industry associations. He served as president of the Washington State Association of Neurological Surgeons (WSANS) from 2006 to 2008 and was twice named one of Seattle Magazine’s “Top Doctors”, and appeared on the Seattle Met “Top Doctors” list in 2013.

EvergreenHealth Spine & Neurosurgical Care specializes in diagnosing, treating and repairing the conditions that cause back pain, with the goal of helping patients get back to a normal lifestyle, using some of the latest advances available to reduce or eliminate their pain.

The practice is located on the EvergreenHealth Medical Center campus in Kirkland.
